Dionysos Winery – Agiorgitiko 2021

The Agiorgitiko 2021 from Dionysos Winery (PGI Peloponnese, 100% Agiorgitiko, 12–12.5%) is one of the larger wine producers in Greece. Dionysos Winery was founded in Athens in 1936 and produces over 11 million litres per year. The grapes originate from the Corinth wine district in the Peloponnese. The wine is classified as PGI and should not be confused with the separately listed PDO Nemea from the same house, which is aged in barriques. In Greece, the price is around 4 euros – clearly the entry-level segment. This is the best wine from Dionysos Winery that I have had in my glass so far. Red berry nose. Still fresh on the palate. Grippy tannin. Good balance of acidity and alcohol. Only slightly disappointing on the finish. Particularly in the second aftertaste, some unclean notes. Slightly musty. 86 points.
