Château Pontet-Canet 2012, the Grand Cru Classé from Pauillac, is a decent vintage for this estate, though of course not on the level of the 100-point 2009 and 2010 vintages. Upon opening, this bottle struggled a bit. Lots of mushrooms on the nose, but not that much fruit initially. It took some time to show off blackberry and beetroot. The tannins are already pretty refined. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot at 13.5% alcohol – a solid if unspectacular effort that earns 92 points.
