Cavino — Ionos NV

PGI Achaia
85% Roditis, 15% Moschato
Peloponnese, Greece

11.5%

Cavino is a winery perhaps best known today for producing Greek wines widely available at discount retailers around the world, but they also have a longer history — the winery was founded in 1958. Their Ionos White, a PGI Achaia blend of 85% Roditis and 15% Moscato at a modest 11.5% alcohol, is one of those everyday offerings. Very clean in the nose, with the Moscato dominating and the Roditis doing its job of providing fluid. It takes a glass to notice that the Roditis actually provides structure that covers deficits — such as unripe fruit aromas and metallic notes. At 82 points, it's a passable but unremarkable wine. And honestly, only if you drink more than one glass. The first is better.
