Boekenhoutskloof — Syrah 2018

The Syrah 2018 from Boekenhoutskloof in South Africa's Swartland served as an international benchmark wine in an extensive tasting of Greek Syrah wines. It had been crowned with 97 points each by Decanter and Tim Atkin, which is why it was actually intended as the reference wine for the absolute top tier. The nose is indeed very intense, almost perfumed. Red currant in particular demands attention here. A fine wine with a long finish. However, a magnificent 93 points are quite sufficient to do the wine justice — which means it actually fell behind the best Greek Syrahs in the tasting.
