The Idea Nemea 2021 from Barafakas Winery (PDO Nemea, 100% Agiorgitiko, 13-13.5%) comes from a family-run estate in Nemea with a viticultural history dating back to the 1920s; the modern winery was founded in 2002 by Christos Barafakas. The vineyards are situated at elevations between 200 and 815 meters within the topographically highly varied Nemea zone. The Idea is vinified in stainless steel tanks - five days of pre-fermentative extraction, fermentation at 24-26 degrees Celsius, followed by four months of tank aging - with no oak maturation. In Greece it retails for around 7-8 euros; a UK merchant recommends it to people who enjoy young Rioja. There is a considerable amount of spice on the nose. On the palate, the tannins are still quite firm. Then a brief, fruity wave follows, but the finish is rather short. A slightly metallic aftertaste. 86 points.
