Astir X Winery – Fare Rebels White 2021

Moschofilero

PGI Peloponnese
100% Moschofilero
Peloponnese, Greece
White | dry
12%

The Fare Rebels white presents itself as a very patriotic wine, aiming to commemorate the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821 in Kalamata ('Faré' in the local parlance). The grapes, however, come from the other end of the Peloponnese, way up north, from Zevgolatio. This does the wine no harm whatsoever. It may only have 12% alcohol, but you're still in for a rollercoaster ride when it comes to aromas – past spring meadows and citrus groves – and there's no shortage of variety. Yet despite all the excitement, something is still missing for a truly clear-cut profile. What's interesting here is seeing acidity and bitterness (grapefruit was this unmistakable only in this wine) not battling against delicate little floral notes for once. This is a wine with serious grip that also demands food. An excellent 90 points.
