Andreou Winery – Feggaropetra 2020
Roditis, Moschofilero
Attica, Greece
White | dry
As part of a tasting of Roditis wines designed to explore the potential of this often underestimated grape variety, the Feggaropetra 2020 from Andreou Winery made a compelling case for where the road with Roditis can lead. The wine's name derives from the stones in the vineyard that sparkle in the moonlight. This blend of Roditis with Moschofilero definitely has what it takes to become a trailblazer for the Peloponnese – at least for the higher-altitude sites that allow for good Moschofilero. The winery belongs to the municipality of Poros and thus to the Attika region, even though geographically it sits on the peninsula. Here, the citrus fruit and structure of the Roditis vine come together beautifully with the floral notes of Moschofilero. No surprise, then, that Master of Wine Konstantinos Lazarakis selected this wine from the small estate for the business class of Aegean Airlines. Only one thing is still quite bothersome at the moment: CO2. It takes several days before the wine truly shows what it has inside. If you chill it down sufficiently, you can also mask the carbon dioxide – but then the wine loses all its floral aromatics and is mainly reminiscent of blood orange and freshly cooked-down strawberries. The already excellent 90+ points will surely be surpassed with ease in future vintages – just as the price of a mere 10€ or so will likely rise too.
