Ampelourgein — MagioVotano 2019

Ampelourgein's MagioVotano is a natural sweet Liatiko from old, ungrafted vines in Schinokapsala, Lassithi on Crete. The grapes are sun-dried for ten days, the wine is wild-fermented and bottled unfiltered at 15.6% alcohol. Think rose petal, dried strawberry, bergamot, salted caramel — floral and vividly refreshing for a red dessert wine. It easily earns 95 points and stands as one of the best under-the-radar Greek sweet wines out there. I can't wait to revisit this wine in a decade. Bravo to Ampelourgein — this is a must-have if you love Crete. Available in Germany through Wine & Nature, and definitely a bargain at its price point.
