Alpha Estate — Pinot Noir Strofi 2018

Single Block

PGI Florina
Pinot Noir (100%)
Macedonia, Greece
Red | dry
13.5%

The Alpha Estate Pinot Noir Strofi 2018 was evaluated across two tastings. In 2021, it initially impressed with a wonderfully expressive aromatic profile: sweet citrus fruit like kumquat combined with caramelized beetroot hit you in a wave. On the palate, the expected sweet blood-like notes appeared, along with a tannin structure that was quite surprising for the variety, though already very well integrated. The 13.5% alcohol went completely unnoticed here – unlike the Biblia Chora Sole Pinot Noir 2019. Back then it received 18 points.\n\nAt the follow-up tasting in 2022, there was less of the blood character, yet the wine somehow came across as more typical. The tannins were better integrated, more red-fruited, though leaning more toward red currant than cherry. Slightly alcoholic on the finish. Verdict: 91 points. Price-wise, expect to pay between €15 and €20.
