Aidarini — SI-LA-VIE 2016

Aidarini's 2016 SI-LA-VIE (PGI Slopes of Paiko) presents an interesting case – a single-varietal Xinomavro that would qualify for PDO Goumenissa were it to include the required Negoska grape. After 24 months of oak aging, it shows mature characteristics of smoked paprika and dark chocolate, with a curious metallic note on the finish. Temperature sensitivity makes proper serving crucial to preserving its Xinomavro character – served too warm, it comes across like a mediocre Merlot. 88 points.
