Acra Winery — Nemea Agiorgitiko 2020

The Nemea Agiorgitiko 2020 from Acra Winery (PDO Nemea, 100% Agiorgitiko, 14.5%) comes from the debut phase of a very young Nemea project. Acra was founded in 2021 by Spiros Papandreou (chemist and oenologist) and Dimitris Papandreou (mechanical engineer); the vineyards were already taken over in 2020. Approximately 4 hectares on clay-limestone soils at elevations between 300 and 550 metres, placing them in the lower to mid-altitude range of the appellation. Notable is the lyre training system — a split, open canopy system that provides good sun exposure and air circulation, but is rarely used due to its high maintenance requirements. In 2020, the estate was still in the organic conversion phase. In the cellar, the wine was aged for 10–11 months in French oak, predominantly used barrels with some new, in 225-litre barriques, followed by approximately 6 months of bottle ageing. Falstaff awarded the 2020 vintage 90 points. A wine with a pronounced nougat character, evident on both the nose and the finish, and distinguished by very polished tannins. Good minerality. Subtle sea buckthorn notes emerging beneath the red and black berry fruit. An altogether very rounded profile. 90 points.
